IPM 2005
The IPM 2005 was a great success. The weather was perfect with only a light shower around 3:30 one afternoon. The theme this year was corn. Thus their logo "Come Be Amazed". There was a 100 acre Tent City, a five acre corn maze, entertainment, 1200 camping sites, and our 20 acre antique area. The paid attendance was over 97,000 and over 10,000 students from various schools attended over the five days of the match.
The antique area had a tent 80'x225' for small farm antiques and toys. There was a good turn out of cars and trucks. The antique part of the plowing match had over 445 tractors plus equipment and a large working display, including a saw mill, thresher, shingle mill, ditch digger, corn harvesting equipment, drag saws, barrel maker, and much more. The M-H-F area had 83 tractors, 33 garden tractors and their equipment, one snowmobile, one roto tiller, 109 implements, 5 signs and Jerry Sykes' trailer containing various Massey memorabilia and tools.
Clare Paton counted the Massey tractors in the antique plowing area and there were another 35 tractors and an unknown number of Massey plows. Also Tent City had a Massey 50, a Pacer, and a few pieces of other Massey equipment. Each make of tractor had their own area with a good turn out of John Deere, Minneapolis, Ford, Oliver, Lease, and Allis. International had a good turn out of trucks, but I thought it was low in tractors and equipment. I talked to people from Scotland, Ireland, Sweden, and the USA. One gentleman from Oklahoma had a great time driving my #2 Parrett around the area.
Thank you everyone who brought out their tractors and equipment. Everyone I talked to said it was the best antique display at a plowing match they had ever attended.
